Love triangle turns deadly for jawan

A Border Security Force (BSF) constable was allegedly murdered by his wife’s ex-husband at Simanagar near Chapra in the wee hours today.

Police said JJ Tarafder (30), a constable of BSF’s 42nd battalion, was hacked to death by his wife’s ex-husband, Prabir Ray, who is a primary school teacher, to revive his relationship with the jawan’s wife.

Mr Hari Kishore Kusumakar, the superintendent of police, Nadia, said: “We haven’t arrested his wife, Radharani, yet. We are interrogating her as there is a possibility that she is related with the murder.”

An officer of Chapra police station said: “Tarafder was hacked to death with a sharp-edged knife or kukri, which was recovered from the crime scene. The victim used to stay in the rented quarters just outside the BSF camp as his original house is in Jalpaiguri. He was married to Radharani, the divorcee of Prabir Roy, about a year back. Even after marriage, both Radharani and Tarafder maintained good terms with Prabir. Radharani and Prabir have two daughters from their marriage, Soumita and Moumita. After their parents’ divorce, Soumita used to stay with Prabir, while Moumita was in the custody of Radharani.” Following the BSF jawan’s murder, BSF's IG south Bengal, Mr CV Muralidhar came to Simanagar this morning to investigate and review the security arrangements of the BSF camp.

Mr Suman Chatterjee, OC, Chapra police station said: “Moumita had identified her father, Prabir Roy, last night when he came to their house and she has also confirmed this during our questioning. We believe that an extramarital relationship between Prabir and Radharani took away Tarafder’s life. Our investigation is on.”
