টম অধিকারী অনশণ ভাংলেন

জলপাইগুড়ি, ১৯শে সেপ্টেম্বরঃ আটদিন পর অনশন প্রত্যাহার করলেন KLO জঙ্গী নেতা টম অধিকারী। দ্রুত মামলা শুনানীর দাবীতে ১২ই সেপ্টেম্বর থেকে টম অধিকারী অনশণ শুরু করেন জলপাইগুড়ি সেন্ট্রাল জেলে। তিনি অশুস্থ হয়ে যাওয়ার কারনে জলপাইগুড়ি জেলা হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়। উল্লেখ্য রাষ্ট্রদ্রোহিতা, খুন আরও অন্নান্য সহ কয়েকটি জামিন অযোগ্য ধারায় টম অধিকারী বন্দী।

মঞ্জুলাল সিংহ রাজনৈতিক বন্দী সমন্বায় কমিটির পক্ষ থেকে জানান, টম অধিকারীর মুক্তির ব্যাপারে রাজ্য বন্দী মুক্তি পর্যালোচনা কমিটির সদস্য সুজাত ভদ্রের দৃষ্টি আকর্ষন করা হয়েছে। তার জামিনের ব্যাপারে রাজ্য সরকার বিরোধিতা না করার সিন্ধান্ত নিয়েছেন। রবিবার টম অনশন প্রাত্যাহার করেন।

জলপাইগুড়ি ১৬ই আগষ্টঃ- জামিনে মুক্তি পাওয়া কে,এল,ও এবং কে,এল,ও, লিঙ্কম্যানেরা গঠন করল তাদের সংগঠন। তাদের সংগঠনের নামকরন করা হয়েছে প্রাক্তন কে,এল,ও, ইউনিয়ন। ইউনিয়নের সদস্যরা শুক্রবার জেলা পুলিশ সুপারের কাছে একটি স্মারকলিপি দিয়ে তাদের কর্মসংস্থানের নিশ্চিত ব্যাবস্থা নেওয়ার দাবি করা হয়েছে। পুলিশ কর্মী নিয়োগের ক্ষেত্রে প্রাক্তন কে,এল,ও, লিঙ্কম্যানদের নিয়োগ করার প্রস্তাব লিখিত ভাবে সুপারের কাছে দেওয়া হয়েছে। বিচারাধীন কে,এল,ও, রাজনৈতিক বন্দিদের বিচারের দ্রুত নিষ্পত্তির কথা স্মারকলিপিতে লেখা রয়েছে। প্রাক্তন কে,এল,ও, ইউনিয়নের জলপাইগুড়ি জেলা কমিটির সভাপতি প্রদীপ রায় বলেন, তারা মুলস্রোত থেকে আত্মনির্ভর হতে চান। ইউনিয়ন করেছেন দাবি আদায়ের জন্য। তিনি আরও জানান, মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বুদ্ধদেব ভট্টাচার্য্য আমাদেরকে প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়েছেন তিনি কর্মসংস্থানের ব্যবস্থা করবেন।

KLO activists lodged in the Jalpaiguri jail

The SP Jalpaiguri, Mr Manoj Varma, today said that police have secured information about the upcoming activities of the KLO by interrogating two KLO activists lodged in the Jalpaiguri jail.

Several KLO activists were apprehended after the ‘Operation Flush Out’ in Bhutan in the year, 2003, and police administration breathed a sigh of relief with the outfit buckling. But now police claim it has learnt that the KLO chief Jiban Singha, believed to be sheltered in Bangladesh, has started reorganising the group.

According to the Jalpaiguri SP, the KLO has already completed training its ninth and tenth batches in Bangladesh and is planning to launch an anti-India offensive in the six districts of north Bengal.

“The two interrogated KLO activists have told us that Jiban Singha is some where around Chittagong in Bangladesh. He has organised a camp to train the fresh KLO recruits. They also divulged that the ninth and tenth batches have already acquired arms training,” added the SP. According to him, the KLO leader's wife Bharati Roy is also with the team and the new recruits are mostly from north Bengal, each group containing 25 members. “We are certain that the KLO is being backed by some source, which the administration is trying to find along with the outfit's intentions,” he added.

Police are yet to learn about the identities of the new recruits. “We are yet to learn the names and the addresses of the recruits but leaving nothing to chance, we have increased vigilance along the Assam, Bhutan and Bangladesh borders,” the SP said.

Five people were injured in a blast

Five people were injured in a blast, allegedly triggered by Ulfa militants, at a Jalpaiguri village near the Bengal-Assam border on 20 february. Police said the separatist outfit had used an improvised explosive device, which was planted on a bicycle in front of the tax office at Barovisha village in Jalpaiguri. It blew up around midday, leaving five civilians — Satyen Das (44), Mahendra Das (65), Jogendra Das (52), Ratan Das (35) and Paritosh Shil (35) — injured.

Though there were no fatalities, police are worried as the blast indicates Ulfa is active in the area. This is not the first such incident in Barovisha. In October 2006, two blasts had ripped apart the hamlet.

Being close to the border, the village has been used as a transit point — and at times, a safe haven — by militants. Before the 2003 flushout operation in Bhutan, Ulfa militants used the place as a safe passage to their camps in the Bhutan hills. Later, it was a KLO hotbed. Businessmen in Barovisha were reportedly forced to pay ransom to these outfits.
