FIR against school secretary over rape

A lady teacher of an English medium school located at Sebagram in Jalpaiguri district has brought rape charges against the secretary of the school. The alleged victim has lodged an FIR at the Jalpaiguri Kotwali police station but the police are yet to take any action.

According to the victim, who is a mother of two and had been abandoned by her husband, Mr Malay Roy, secretary of St Anthony’s Day School, took advantage of her condition and abused her physically several times. She has threatened to approach the Human Rights’ and Women’s Commission with her case.

Dismissing her allegation, Mr Roy said: “The teacher’s attitude is not proper and so the school committee has decided to release her of her services. He also stated that a section of the guardians were unhappy with the teacher too.

The principal, Mrs Rejina Roy echoed the secretary’s version and said: “The teachers and members of the staff are unhappy with the concerned teacher too and so we decided to dismiss her, which has led to the commotion.”

But Mr Roy’s family members are against him. Mr Joyti Prosad Roy, Mr Roy’s uncle alleges: “It is not the first time Malay is accused of such offence. In a similar incident 5 years ago he had allegedly molested a lady teacher from Kolkata, who had to leave the job. He is still on bail from the former incident.” The incident, as usual is getting political.

“We have decided to launch a movement demanding the arrest of the school’s secretary,” said Ms Sagarika Sen, president, Mahila Trinamul Congress Committee, Jalpaiguri.
