The DYFI Breck Rules in Jalpaiguri Hospital Premises

The DYFI flouted government rules on the use of microphone and used it in the Jalpaiguri Sadar hospital premises. The state government has recently made a rule, which bars the use of microphones in government offices. The DYFI's act violated the state government rule.

The DYFI organised a meeting at the gate of the Jalpaiguri sadar hospital on 27th November demanding development of heath service. It then entered the hospital premises and used microphones. “I was attending a relative admitted in the hospital with serious cardiac problem. Suddenly I heard the party leaders delivering their political message over a microphone within the hospital premises. The noise created inconvenience for my relative and I strongly object to such acts,” said Mr Subhankar Hore who was in the hospital during the DYFI programme. The SDO of Jalpaiguri, Mr Atanu Kumar Roy, has held the district DYFI responsible for the act and for abusing the government order against the use of microphone in a state government office.

“The state chief secretary in a Memo No. 263 (61)-CS /2008 dated 10 November has prohibited the use of microphones in state government offices. Permission for use of microphone was given to the DYFI for today's rally as they were supposed to hold the programme a 100 metre away from the hospital. The permission has been abused and the rule violated. I will take action against the accused if the CMOH Jalpaiguri informs me the matter,” the SDO, Mr Roy, said.

The Jalpaiguri district CMOH, Dr Malay Ghosh, has but sent back the ball in the SDO's court. “The SDO gave the permission for use of microphone and so it is his duty to see if it was abused or not. Why should I as the CMOH inform the SDO about it?” is what the CMOH said.

The DYFI Jalpaiguri district secretary Mr Arindam Chakraboty, however, said that his organisation used the microphone in low volume. “Although we used the microphone in volume low, such an act would not be repeated in future,” he assured
