Customs department confiscated a lorry load of Ganja, worth Rs 8 lakh, near the Teesta Bridge in Jalpaiguri and arrested the helper of the lorry in 5th December. The seized Ganja, weighing around 236 kgs, was being smuggled to Burdwaman from Cooch Behar. According to the Customs sources, the private truck designed to perform as logistics career, was coming from Assam. It was carrying some equipments belonging to a private telecommunications company and was heading for Burdwaman. After arriving at Cooch Behar, the driver loaded marijuana on the lorry, which was packed in seven large-jute bags meant for carrying tea. The customs officials however, somehow got a tip off and intercepted the lorry near the Teesta Bridge in Jalpaiguri. While the driver fled, the officials nabbed the helper, Suresh Sahani.
